About us

Buffalo River Indian Baptist was founded in 1996 by Truett student, Greg Long. Greg left after graduation to pastor a Navajo church in his home area a couple of years later. The strong commitment of the congregation has kept the church active.

We meet in the activities center building of First Baptist Church at 5th and Clay at 10AM Sunday mornings and have a study Wednesday evenings from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on the first floor.

The goals of Buffalo River are to:

  • 1. Share the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
  • 2. Help people grow in their understanding of God's Word.
  • 3. Grow in understanding of American Indian culture.
  • 4. Promote understanding and application of the winning lifestyle.
  • 5. Support American Indian children in educational goals.
  • 6. Review, understand and discuss books like "Lakota Woman" by Lame Deer, "Seeker of Visions" and Paul J. Meyer's "Forgiveness"
  • 7. Maintain an active Sunday school for the children.

  • We have Sunday lunches, Native American weddings and picnics.
